CORRESPONDING WITH YOU DNA MATCHES
At our GENCOM DNA Special Interest Group meetings, I have been asked
several times how to correspond with matches on your DNA results.
On her blog, Roberta Estes lists twenty three ways not to correspond or
respond to your matches. Even though she lists the “Do Nots” you can
probably pick up many hints about how to properly communicate.
Our next DNA SIG meeting will be Wednesday 16 April 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, Shreveport. Anyone interested in DNA testing is welcome to attend. You may contact me at jgjones09@gmail.com or phone (318) 773-7406 for information.

FAMILYTREEDNA 12 MARKER Y-DNA TEST NOW $49
The sale on the 12 marker Y-DNA test from FamilyTreeDNA has ended, but the new permanent price is still a bargain. This is a good starter test to find some of your ancestors in your paternal lineage. Chances are that you will find some contacts for your surname from this test. FamilyTreeDNA stores the DNA sample so you will be able to order upgrades and new type tests without submitting a new sample.

$39 FAMILY TREE 12 MARKER Y DNA TEST
Is the Family Tree DNA 12 Marker Test Worthwhile?
First, the 12 marker y-DNA test from FamilyTreeDNA is still on sale for $39. FamilyTree states that the sale is on for a limited time but give no date when the sale ends. When this test was first placed on sale the end of the sale was supposed to be the last of February but they keep extending the date, with no indication of when the sale will end.
You can order the test at their website https://www.familytreedna.com/order-now.aspx?ty=61
If you have any questions about this test and what you will be getting for your $39, see Roberta Estes' blog at http://dna-explained.com/2013/03/13/is-the-family-tree-dna-12-marker-test-worthwhile/. She has done a great job of explaining what a deal this test is.
If you want to order more than one test but do not know the names of the individuals that will be taking the test you can order multiple individual test and use the name TBD (to be determined) for the person's name. Esther and I have ordered 5 tests using TBD1 - TBD5 as names on the tests to use for various individuals in our family at a family reunion in May. There is no time limit on the amount of time for the tests to be submitted and the test material will last for several years. If you have plans to talk to some of our relatives about taking a DNA test, this is an opportunity to get your foot in the door for a very low cost.
