DNA TEST SALES FOR NATIONAL DNA DAY

NATIONAL DNA DAY is April 25^th and commemorates the day in 1953 when a paper detailing the structure of DNA as a double helix was published in Nature magazine.  It also recognizes the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003.

In celebration of these accomplishments both AncestryDNA and FamilyTreeDNA are having a sale on all of their DNA tests for genealogy.  The following is information on the sales and links to the sites (Click on the company name to go to the site):

ANCESTRYDNA

The normal price for the Ancestry autosomal DNA test is $99.  During this sale the price has been reduced to $79.

FAMILYTREEDNA

All of FTDNA’s DNA tests are on sale at the prices listed above.

GENCOM Recommendations:

1.      If you want to take the Y-DNA (male line) or mt-DNA (female line) test, you will need to test with FTDNA since they are the only company offering these tests.  For the Y-DNA test I would recommend the Y37 marker test.  You will be able to upgrade later by just paying the price difference without taking another test.

2.      If you want to take the Autosomal DNA test (AncestryDNA on Ancestry or FamilyFinder on FTDNA), I recommend the following:

a.       Take the AncestryDNA test from Ancestry for the sale price of $79.  I recommend using Ancestry because of the new tools that have recently been added making it easier to get started using the results in your genealogy research.

b.      Once you have the results from Ancestry you have the option of transferring your raw data to FTDNA for only $39.  This is the same as taking the DNA test on FTDNA for a greatly reduced price.  The advantages to this transfer is that FTDNA has more advanced tools to use in your research and your DNA will be compared to their database and give you more cousin matches.

FamilyTreeDNA has all of their tests on sale until the end of the year.  If you are interested in a YDNA or MtDNA test this is the testing company to use, since they are the only ones offering these tests.  Click on the image at the left to see the prices of all their tests.  If you are wanting to order an autosomalDNA test see my advice below.

AncestryDNA has their autosomalDNA test on sale for the lowest price of the year.  The prices for this test is $69 with AncestryDNA until Midnight Monday 29 November and $89 with FamilyTreeDNA until the end of the year.

I recommend taking the autosomalDNA test while it is on sale at AncestryDNA, and  when the results come in transfer the raw test data to FamilyTreeDNA for only $39.  This gives an equivalency of testing with both companies for a total cost of $108.  The advantages of testing with both companies this way is it is more economical and your test results will be compared to additional DNA testers and therefore you will have more cousin matches.  I am available to answer any questions you have about DNA testing and assist in transferring your test data from AncestryDNA to FamilyTreeDNA.

ANOTHER DNA TEST SALE FROM ANCESTRY!

Would you believe? - Another DNA test sale from Ancestry.  This sale is for $79 ($20 off regular price) and lasts until 17 August 2015.  Even though Ancestry leaves some things to be desired with the tools that they provide for analyzing your DNA tests, this is still a great deal to take advantage of.  You can test with Ancestry and then transfer the raw data to FTDNA for only $39.  This compares your results to both databases for a total cost of $118 instead of $198 at the regular prices.  If you need help transferring the raw data, I will be glad to help.  Click HERE to order the kit from AncestryDNA.

Ancestry has extended their excellent sale by another day. The sale for the autosomal DNA test for $79 ends tonight 08 January at midnight. Order this test and then when you get the results you can transfer the raw data to FamilyTreeDNA for $39. That way you get to compare two databases and find more matches.
