Collections included in these records include:

2. U.S. Navy Cruise Books, 1918-2009
3. War of 1812 Pension Application Files Index, 1812-1815
4. U.S., Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Application Files, 1800-1900
5. Records of the Grand Army of the Republic

UPDATED MILITARY RECORDS ON FAMILYSEARCH.ORG AND ANCESTRY.COM

There have been only two record collections that have been updated recently.  But, they are important in searching for your military ancestors.

FamilySearch has a record collection of the Louisiana First Registration Draft Cards between 1940 and 1945.   These are draft registration cards covering a special classification of individuals born between February 17, 1897 to 1928.

Ancestry has a record collection of registers of U.S. military personnel stationed in the United States. The majority of this collection covers U.S. Army and Navy personnel, though lists for the Air Force, Marine Corp, National Guard, and the Reserves are included as well.

FREE ACCESS TO FOLD3 CIVIL WAR RECORDS DURING APRIL

GENCOM Genealogical Computer Society's April meeting on April 26th will feature a presentation by Jon Oliver entitled "A Survey of the Red River Campaign of 1864; the last major conflict in Louisiana"

 From now until April 30th Fold3.com is offering free access to all of their Civil War Collection.  This would be an ideal time to search these records from the comfort of your home.

MILITARY RESEARCH HELP

 If you are doing military research, this would be a handy chart to have by your side.

When I did Civil War research I used this to go through my family tree and list all of the ancestors that were born between the dates and listed them. That way I had information on which ancestors I needed to look for on Fold3.com.
